The 3rd Avenue Streetscaping Project is being undertaken to improve ADA accessibility, expand bicycle and pedestrian facilities, improve traffic operations, and enhance aesthetics and safety between the new train station and downtown Coatesville. The project will initiate transit-oriented development and promote area-wide revitalization.
Streetscaping along the four-block stretch of 3rd Avenue between Fleetwood Street at the train station and Lincoln Highway (Route 30) is being completed in conjunction with the train station development project. In addition to repaving 3rd Avenue, the $1 million streetscaping initiative includes:
- ADA-compliant sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalks;
- New lighting and planters;
- Modernized traffic signals and signage; and
- Bicycle racks.
The streetscape design was completed in February 2017. A construction contractor was selected in June 2017, and construction began in July. Work is expected to be completed within approximately one year.
The project is being led by the City of Coatesville Redevelopment Authority with additional funding by PennDOT and the Federal Transit Administration.
